The Knife Art Association (KAA) was established in 2013 as a not-for-profit organisation, run by it’s members to promote custom knife making and support makers in Australia. The KAA now successfully runs the Sydney Knife Show, the Blade Symposium and bespoke workshops designed to improve knifemaking in Australia. The KAA also runs extensive social media groups focusing on these skills.
The Sydney Knife Show is Australia’s largest knife show, featuring a diverse array of knives, tools and supplies from manufacturers, knifemakers, collectors, dealers and associated industries all under one roof. The show has been a huge success, previously being held in 2014, 2016 and 2017, each time attracting more exhibitors and drawing in bigger crowds.
Building on the success of the Sydney Knife Show, the KAA is now holding additional knife shows in Australia, with Perth and Brisbane just announced for 2019.
The Australian Blade Symposium invites some of Australia’s very best knife makers and blade smiths as they share their secrets to manufacturing the perfect knife. This includes sessions on forging, grinding, heat treating, handle fitment, leatherwork and more. In addition to the Blade Symposium, the KAA also runs masterclasses on knifemaking, having previously invited Mastersmiths from the American Bladesmith Society to run week long classes.
